Normally you wouldn&#8217;t be able to make creamy almond butter with a food processor, you would just get almond meal, but you can if you add a little almond oil. That&#8217;s the trick. Almond butter is a very healthy snack. </p>
<p>This recipe uses raw almonds. I always use raw nuts &#8211; never roasted. Roasting introduces trans fats, which are not healthy for you. I buy raw almonds from Trader Joe&#8217;s here in Southern California. At this time, they go for about $4.49 per pound. One pound of raw almonds will make one jar of almond butter. Not only is this fresh almond butter very tasty, but also it is very economical. A similar jar of raw almond butter will go for about $8.00 or $9.00 in a health food store. </p>
<p>For this recipe I also bought some almond oil from our local health foods store &#8211; Whole Foods Market. This particular almond oil is the Whole Foods store brand and is expeller pressed. </p>

<h3>Homemade Almond Butter</h3>
<ul>
<li>1 lb raw almonds</li>
<li>3-4 tbsp almond oil</li>
<li>1 tsp salt</li>
</ul>
<p>Add about 1/2 lb raw almonds to a food processor, then grind them up, then add remaining 1/2 lb almonds to the food processor. Continue grinding the almonds and add almond oil and salt during processing. Allow to completely mix for several minutes until smooth and spreadable. Don&#8217;t add too much almond oil. Try 3 tbsp at first. Add more only if necessary to allow almonds to blend. It will depend on how dry the almonds are. Using a rubber spatula, put finished almond butter into a canning jar when done.</p>
